2:45 p.m. --  New discussion on 5.7, coordination/communication


Dr. Grosser presented PowerPoints showing his metric analysis of GWI research publications, connectivity.  Cumulative:  353 total.  12 are most recent VA-/CDMRP-funded studies.  Showed a GWI Co-Authorship Network of authors:  n=866 on 353 papers in PubMed; several major nodes of collaboration.  UT-Southwestern a separate node.   !Idea: Develop mechanisms to increase connectivity between researchers and their collaboration.  More authors publishing the field, but they don't "interact" (co-author).  Discussion of correlation between decrease in new studies and decrease in funding seems apparent.  Discussion that study citations may not bet the best way to measure progress in GWI research.  !Fund consortia so researchers can collaborate; or a Center.
