Arlington Heights man and wife dead in apparent murder-suicide
An Arlington Heights man and his wife were found dead of gunshot wounds Wednesday morning in an apparent murder-suicide.
Police said they discovered the bodies of Angelita James, 56, and her husband, Roger James, 48, of the 900 block of East Shady Way, after her son called to report she had not shown up for work and couldn't be reached.
The Cook County medical examiner's office said it appeared Angelita James had been shot in the face and that her husband had died of a self-inflicted wound.
Roger James was a Persian Gulf War veteran and commander of the Des PlainesAmerican Legion Post 36 who helped with many of the group's charity efforts, said Phil Campbell, a past commander.
But Campbell said his friend's typically outgoing and friendly personality had changed in recent months. He'd become moody, Campbell said, and would engage in unusual behavior such as calling friends in the middle of the night.
It is just tragic that he did not get the help that he needed when there was still a time. I feel sad for the couple.

The problem with spending most of your life in the armed forces is that the culture of violence sometimes embeds itself on your personality. I hope this does not happen to anyone else.
